Verifiable credentials at European scale — in education, social security, and corporate identity

A project co-funded by the European Union under the Digital Europe Programme, with 52 organizations from 20 countries. The goal: moving verifiable credentials from pilots into real production, in the sectors where they have the greatest impact.

Izertis led the development of the project's reference Enterprise Wallet — the one that defines how organizations issue, manage, and verify credentials within the EBSI ecosystem. That wallet is Identfy.

Highlights

  • Reference Enterprise Wallet for the EBSI ecosystem, developed by Izertis
  • Use cases in education (diplomas, transcripts, Erasmus+ mobility), social security (EHIC, PD A1), and legal entity identity
  • Wallet interoperability validated across 20 countries
  • Coordination of the education use case with nearly 30 European universities

Identfy's Personal Wallet, in one of the four major European pilots for eIDAS 2.0

DC4EU is one of the four Large Scale Pilots selected by the European Commission to validate the EUDI Wallet ahead of its mandatory rollout in 2026. With 80 organizations from 23 countries and led by Spain's Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, the project tests the real interoperability of verifiable credentials in education and social security at cross-border scale.

Izertis participates by contributing Identfy Personal Wallet as the reference solution for the pilot's use cases — the app through which students and citizens receive, store, and present their verifiable credentials in any country within the ecosystem.

Highlights

  • Official wallet selected in DC4EU
  • First European project to use EBSI at scale as a trusted data source for the EUDI Wallet
  • Use cases: educational credentials, professional qualifications, European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), and portable document PDA1
  • Interoperability validated across 23 countries in a pre-production environment

Identfy in the European pilot that is defining how businesses will operate digitally across Europe

WE BUILD is the consortium selected by the European Commission for the second round of Large Scale Pilots for the EUDI Wallet — the most ambitious to date, with nearly 200 partners spanning member states, public bodies, and the private sector. Its focus is not citizens but businesses: how the European Business Wallet becomes, in the Commission's own words, the cornerstone of digital business in the EU.

Izertis was selected in February 2025 to participate in WE BUILD, contributing Identfy as the solution for B2B use cases. The project kicked off in September 2025 and runs for 24 months — meaning Identfy is being validated right now in the most relevant European pilot for the enterprise sector.

Highlights

  • 13 use cases covering business operations, supply chain, and payments — including KYC, KYB, legal representation, and cross-border tax declarations
  • Identfy contributed as the reference solution for B2B, B2G, and B2C use cases
  • Led by the governments of the Netherlands and Sweden, with 13 European business registries as the foundation of the consortium
  • The project that is defining how the European Business Wallet will operate ahead of its mandatory deployment

Verifiable accreditation

Verifiable professional fitness credentials for accreditation and digital access.

One of Spain's leading professional associations faces a challenge common to many in its sector: a manual, slow, and error-prone process for verifying professional fitness. The goal is to replace it with verifiable credentials that work in seconds — for the professional who needs them and for the institution that verifies them.

Izertis is developing a pilot with this organization using Identfy that covers three specific use cases: professional fitness accreditation for registration, cooperation, and practice in other countries; a membership identity credential for professionals; and secure access to the institutional platform using verifiable credentials — with no passwords.

Highlights

  • Issuance of a verifiable professional fitness credential — for practicing, registering, and operating in international environments
  • Professionals carry their accreditation on their phone, available whenever they need it
  • Password-free system access — eliminating friction and reducing the risk of unauthorized access
  • Replicable model for any professional association or accreditation body in the country
